This group collaborates on effective ways of reducing the risk of infection in patients in critical care and also on the risk to staff looking after patients with infections e.g. Influenza, COVID -19.

Areas of focus include

• PPE
• Antibiotic stewardship
• Blood stream infections

Following publication of the Adult Critical Care service Specification (D05) in 2019 it is now mandatory for all units to upload data on blood stream infections on their units to PHE’s Infection on Critical Care Quality Improvement Programme  (ICCQIP) . This is an integrated data reporting and analysis for the surveillance of blood stream infections in critical care units.
